Rison Man Praises Care at East Point Rehab in Star City

Dear Editor, I caught Covid around Thanksgiving of 2021, didn’t go to the doctor right then, I should’ve because I’m a transplant, having had a kidney transplant back in 2010. On Dec. 3, my brother took me and my mother to JRMC and that’s when I was diagnosed with Covid. I was shipped to Conway due to no beds being available. I was placed on a vent, trach and my oxygen levels were in the 20s and my lips were blue. I was on a vent for six-to-seven weeks and my family was called in at one time because they didn’t expect me to live through the night. By the grace of God, I did. I stayed in Conway until mid January and then went to CSI St Vincent’s for about three-to-four weeks. I was then transferred to the Blossoms after my stay at St. Vincent’s. My mother died while I was at the Blossoms, and I didn’t even get to go to her funeral. I was alone in a room for the first 100 days with zero mobility. After the 100 days there, I could barely move my arms. I had OT, PT and ST every single day and didn’t have much of a change. My brother was my proxy, he took care of everything, my bills, my checking accounts and maintaining my house etc. My brother was even asked about putting me with Hospice. He wasn’t happy with my care and that’s when I was transferred to East Point in Star City. The Friday before Memorial Day, John called and said that he was coming to get me and we were headed to Star City. I was admitted to East Point on May 31. I started on OT two-tothree days later and the following Monday, PT was started. Phillip the PT said he was going to work me hard and get me back like I was previously. I was bed bound with only movement in my arms. It was very hard for me to stand, and that’s what we worked on first. I remember after two-to-three weeks, I was standing, and I was so happy.
