RISON - Stan Sadler, the Zone 4 representative on the Cleveland County School Board, submitted a letter of resignation to Superintendent Jerrod Williams last Thursday, Nov. 16.
When asked the reason for his resignation, Sadler responded, "No reason." Sadler's resignation will not become official until the Cleveland County School Board acts on it. Williams said he will present the letter at the next scheduled board meeting, which is at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11, in the administration building at Rison. Williams said he will discuss some options on how the board might fill the vacancy during that meeting.
Whoever is selected will fill the remainder of Sadler's term, which ends in 2026. That person will be eligible to run for the position once the term is completed.
Zone 4 encompasses portions of Rison and an area north of the city between Hwy. 79 North and Hwy. 133. The zone extends north along the west side of Hwy. 133 to Dunkeffie Road, and to Park Street along the east side of Hwy. 79 North. The southern boundary is roughly the Rison city limits.
While Zone 4 does include portions of Rison, it does not include the main residential area. Zone 4 includes portions of the city that are west of Main Street, north of First Street and south of Amis/Sixth Street. Sadler was in attendance at an expulsion hearing held before the regular monthly meeting on Nov. 14. However, he left the expulsion hearing before it concluded and did not return for the regular monthly school board meeting that followed. He said he turned in his letter of resignation to Williams on Thursday morning, Nov. 16.
Sadler is one of the longest serving membvers on the Cleveland County School Board. His mother, the late Ruth Sadler, was a long-time home economics teacher at Rison High School.
