WOODLAWN - After hearing an estimated “conceptional budget” of $1.44 million to build an addition to the Woodlawn School cafeteria, the Woodlawn School Board decided Tuesday to take some time to think about it and make a decision in s special meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, in the administration building.Brody Richardson of Brody Richardson Construction of Sheridan, the construction manager selected by the school board to oversee the project, told the board during its regular monthly meeting Tuesday night that the $1.4 million figure included not only the construction but items to finish out the project like refrigerated coolers for the kitchen, a larger back-up generator and a special “fire cooling door” to protect the new addition from fire.Richardson said the cost to build the 2,754 square foot addition alone would be $961,977. In order to finish out the entire project, he said two additional coolers and a second serving line would have to be added at a cost about $158,000, the fire cooling door would cost about $91,000, converting a restroom into a break room would cost about $86,300, and a new up-sized generator to handle the extra equipment would be about $75,000. He added in another $50,000 as a “construction contingency fund,” which is essentially money set aside in case an unexpected expense arises during construction.Richardson also included a breakdown of what he expects sub-contractors would cost. He told the board that he felt all of the estimates he presented are on the high side and the actual bids will likely come in below his conceptional budget.Superintendent Dr. Kevin Hancock told the board that it could accept or reject the conceptional budget. By accepting it, he said the project can begin moving forward. If not, the board can hire another construction manager to get a possible lower price. Brody Richardson is the second construction manager selected for the project. The school board decided to...
