WOODLAWN - Brody Richardson Construction of Sheridan came out on top in a ranking of construction managers selected by the Woodlawn School Board during a special called meeting Monday night.Meanwhile, the school board also approved a motion to allow Superintendent Dr. Kevin Hancock to move up to $20,000 from the building fund to the general fund to shore up the final 2024-25 balance.After hearing presentations from four construction manager candidates during their regular monthly meeting on Aug. 11, the board reconvened Monday night to hear from architect David Porter about the cafeteria expansion project before taking a vote to rank the four finalists for construction manager.The final order behind Brody Richardson Construction was Carpenter & Sons Construction of Hamburg, Baldwin & Schell of Little Rock and East Harding Construction of Little Rock.Woodlawn began the search for a new construction manager last month when the board voted to go a different direction after the estimated cost for the cafeteria expansion from the original construction manager, Clark Construction, came in well above what the board expected.To find a replacement, the board sent out a "request for qualifications" and received 10 responses. Hancock said they narrowed that list down to the four finalists that made presentations during the Aug. 11 meeting.Since the district used the request for qualifications method to find the replacement, it allows the district to rank the candidates and then go to the next ranked finalists should the first one not work out.Brody Richardson Construction was the smallest of the four finalists, but many of the school board members said they felt he would be the least expensive.Brody Richardson, the owner of the company, made the presentation to the school board.Hancock had recommended Baldwin & Schell and Carpenter & Son as his two selections based on cost and quality of work.
