School Board Race Down to Two Candidates; Voters To Decide 2-Mill Tax Increase
RISON - The race for a seat on the Woodlawn School Board is now down to two candidates after David White informed the Cleveland County Clerk’s office last week that he has officially withdrawn from the race.Voters in the Woodlawn School District will go to the polls this Tuesday to decide on who will take one of five at-large positions on the school board as well as decide on a proposed 2-mill tax increase that will support construction of a new career education center and expand the school cafeteria.White along with Trevaughn Moore and the incumbent Larry Reynolds filed for the Woodlawn School Board position currently held by Reynolds.All five seats on the Woodlawn School Board at at-large positions, which means every voter within the school district can vote on each position.The clerk’s office reported that White informed them last week that he was officially withdrawing from the race, leaving Moore and Reynolds as the remaining candidates.Since White’s withdrawal came after the ballots were already created, the clerk’s office said his name will still be on Tuesday’s ballot, but any vote for White will not be counted. Only the votes for Moore and Reynolds will be considered to determine the winner.Early voting for the Woodlawn school election is currently underway from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays at the Hall-Morgan Veterans Building, 404 Sycamore Street across from the courthouse in Rison. The final day for early voting is Monday, May 12.Three polling sites will be open within the Woodlawn School District from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13: Pleasant Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, 3833 Rodgers Road West near the Randall community; Center Missionary Baptist Church, 12270 Hwy. 63 in the Rowell community; and Union United Methodist Church, 21230 Hwy 35 South in the Rye community.Millage IncreaseVoters are being asked to approve a request by the school d...
