Woodlawn Spanish Students Attend Language Tour at Harding

Submitted by Dee HyattOn Friday, April 18, Woodlawn Spanish students traveled to Harding University. Upon arrival, they were met by Thando Mothangu, a Harding alumni from Johannesburg, South Africa, Mr. Mothangu, an Admissions Counselor and guide, was an upbeat and compassionate guy, who demonstrated his knowledge and respect for the university continuously as we toured the entire campus accompanied by him. In the McInteer Bible and World Missions Center, Mr. Mothangu highlighted one of his favorite paintings by Tessa Davidson, M.F.A based on the teachings of the Old Testament. Our group enjoyed multiple displays of visual art in the entrance area of this building. This tour of the campus included a private viewing of the Foreign Languages and International Studies Department where the students met with Dr. Kristi Bond, Department Chair.  She spoke to the group about multiple foreign languages and cultures, then shared some of her experiences of helping out the local community as well as her mission trips abroad. Finally, the students recited their individual poems receiving critiques with positive feedback from Dr. Bond. Next, students attended a presentation discussing their various Study Abroad programs that are available throughout the year. Some campuses include: Greece, Italy, Europe and Latin America. After that, we transitioned to the Department of Art, Architecture, and Design. We met Mr. Mitch Breitweiser, one of the professors, and a man who worked as a designer and sketch artist at Marvel Comics for 14 years. He was our tour guide, taking us through various studios showcasing many different projects of multiple mixed media. Mr. Breitweiser then took us through the architecture and design students' final projects, displaying their creative and imaginative process.
