First-Degree Murder Trial Scheduled To Begin Tuesday

RISON - A woman accused of shooting a Greenwood man to death in August 2022 outside a residence in Cleveland County is scheduled to go on trial next week, according to court records.Emily Brown, who was listed as a resident of Broken Arrow, Okla., at the time of the shooting, was arrested and charged with first degree murder for the death of Christopher Miller, 38, of Greenwood.The Cleveland County Sheriff's Department reported it received a call at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022, about an individual being shot at a residence on Brown Road in the Macedonia community about seven miles south of Rison off Hwy. 35.According to the police report, deputies responded to the location and discovered that Miller had been shot multiple times in the yard of the residence and was deceased.Chief Deputy Gary Young of the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department reported that the shooting occurred during an altercation between Miller and Brown, who was 31 at the time. Young said the victim and Brown had been in a relationship but were estranged.An investigation into the shooting led to Brown's arrest on Aug. 8 on charges of first degree murder, which is a Class Y felony punishable by 10 to 40 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $25,000.Brown is being represented by attorney Richard Holiman of Little Rock. Thirteenth Judicial District Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Eric Marks is representing the state.The case is being tried under Circuit Judge David Talley, Jr....
