RISON - After trailing by as many as 13 in the second quarter, Rison’s freshman guard Teairra Miller and the Lady Wildcats completely flipped the script on the Fordyce Ladybugs in the second half as they dominated over the final two quarters for a 69-43 victory Tuesday night inside the Rison Gym.Fordyce was up 21-8 when Rison’s Carlese Johnson hit a free throw to end the Ladybugs’ 10-0 run with 3:43 left in the second quarter. A couple of steals and layups by NaKayla Washington, a steal and three-point play from Layne Potter and three free throws by Miller cut that 13-point deficit to just one, 21-20, with about two minutes left.Fordyce, however, ended the half on an 8-0 run to take a 29-20 advantage into halftime.It didn’t take long for the momentum to shift in the second half. Using a series of layups, jumpers and three 3-pointers, the Lady ‘Cats reeled off a 19-0 run to start the second quarter. Much of the run was fueled by steals from Miller as she she intercepted a number passes as the Ladybugs struggle to get the ball across midcourt.Miller’s trey at the 5:57 mark tied the game 29-29, and Potter then buried another 3 to give Rison its first lead, 32-29, with 5:11 remaining in the third.Rison never let up from there, outscoring Fordyce 30-6 over the course of the third to take a commanding 50-35 lead into the final period. The Lady Wildcats continued to add to their lead, at one point leading by as many as 29 points.Miller finished with 25 points, which included two from long distance and 3-for-3 at the charity stripe. Potter also had two treys to end up with 15 while Johnson was 6-of-7 at the free throw line for 12 points.Rison’s first-year head coach, Lisa Jester, said she told her team at halftime that they are the one’s to control the momentum, and challenged them to turn up the pace and momentum in the third quarter, which they did.Rison improved to 2-2 overall wi...
