WOODLAWN - The Woodlawn Lady Bears are taking a ton of momentum into this week's 8-2A District Tournament after the Lady Bears won their final two road games at Ouachita and Hampton last week to finish the regular season with a 18-12 record overall and an 11-5 mark in league play, which was good enough to earn the league's no. 2 seed.On Jan. 7, the Lady Bears were sitting at 8-11 overall and 1-4 in conference action after a disappointing 47-46 setback at Junction City. Since then, they have won 10 of their last 11 games with the only loss coming on the road against 8-2A regular season champion Poyen, currently ranked no. 5 in the state for Class 2A with a 23-2 overall record and 16-0 mark in conference play.Woodlawn and Junction City tied for second in the final 8-2A standings at 11-5, but the Lady Bears got the no. 2 seed by virtue of a larger margin victory in their head-to-head matchups.By getting the no. 2 seed, the Lady Bears automatically advance to the district tournament semifinals and will receive one of the district's four slots to the Region 4 tournament next week.Due to the threat of winter weather, officials overseeing the 8-2A District Tournament delayed the schedule back by one day, which means Woodlawn will play in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, rather than Thursday.Here is a recap of Woodlawn's two road victories last week: Woodlawn 52, Hampton 45 HAMPTON - A dominating first half by the Woodlawn Lady Bears gave them a 16-point cushion at halftime as they eased by the Hampton Lady Bulldogs, 52-45, in the regular season finale last Friday night at Hampton.Woodlawn got of to a hot start as they led 21-9 at the end of the first quarter before going up 3418 by halftime.
