RISON - The Rison High School boys and girls basketball teams as well as the Woodlawn High School girls basketball team all advanced to their respective regional tournaments with both Rison teams scheduled to play today.The Rison Wildcats, who entered the 8-3A District Tournament as the no. 6 seed, rallied in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime before knocking off the third-seeded Drew Central Pirates, 73-72, to earn a trip to the Class 3A Region 4 Tournament at Centerpoint. The 'Cats are scheduled to play the Prescott Curly Wolves, the no. 1 seed from the 7-3A conference, at 5:30 p.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 26) at Centerpoint High School near Amity.Meanwhile, the Rison Lady Wildcats finished as the no. 4 seed in the 8-3A District Tournament after beating the DeWitt Lady Dragons, 52-36, last Thursday at McGehee. They will face the Fouke Lady Panthers, the no. 1 seed from the 7-3A conference, at 4 p.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 26) at Centerpoint High School near Amity.The Woodlawn Lady Bears advanced to the 8-2A District Tournament championship game before falling to the fourth-ranked Poyen Lady Indians in the finals. The Lady Bears will take the no. 2 seed from the 8-2A conference into the Class 2A Region 4 Tournament at beings today at Poyen. The Lady Bears will meet Cutter-Morning Star, the no. 3 seed from the 7-2A conference, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at Poyen High School.The Woodlawn Bears just missed advancing to the regional tournament when the Hampton Bulldogs sank a jumper at the buzzer to knock off the Bears, 76-75, in the 8-2A District Tournament quarterfinals.For a wrap-up of last weeks ago and a look at the regional opponents, see stories in the sports section....
