Bears Rebound After First Loss, Use 10 Walks to Beat Stuttgart

STUTTGART - Woodlawn cashed in on 10 walks as the Bears rebounded from their first loss of the year with an 11-4 win over the Class 5A Stuttgart Ricebirds, 11-4, Tuesday on the road.Woodlawn scored a run in each of the first three innings to go up 3-0 before Stuttgart closed it to 3-2 in the bottom of the third off an RBI single and error.The Bears answered with four runs in the top of the fourth, stringing together four consecutive walks after the lead-off batter was struck out. Ty Motes then singled to add another run and Logan Clark followed with another hit to drive in two more to give Woodlawn a 7-3 lead.Stuttgart came back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to make it 7-4, but the Bears once again answered with four innings in the following frame.Two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases for Woodlawn in the top of the sixth with no outs before the next two batters were retired. Gavin Edmonds then singled to drive in two runs, and Peyton Wells followed with a two-run triple to stretch the Bears' lead to 11-4.The Ricebirds did put one runner on in both the sixth and sev enth innings, but both were left stranded.Woodlawn had 10 hits in the game with Garrett Weatherford and Clark finishing with two apiece. Wells, Motes, Gavin Edmonds, Tate Hall, Hollis Holderfield and Parker Arnold also had hits.Tyler French started for the Bears and got the victory. He scattered five hits and two walks over five innings while striking out six.
