Three Bears Win Classes At State Powerlifting Meet

MONTICELLO - Three Woodlawn lifters won their respective weight classifications this past Saturday at the Arkansas High School Powerlifting Association State Championship Meet held at Monticello High School. The Bears finished third overall in the team standings.Bentonville West was the overall winner in the team standings with 58 points followed by Monticello with 46 and Woodlawn with 39. Fort Smith Southside with 27 and Star City with 25 rounded out the Top 5.Powerlifting consists of three lifts: the squat, bench press and deadlift. Winners in each weight classification are determined by the total combined weight of their lifts.Bears Coach Zach Meyer said several lifters recorded their personal bests at the meet that helped Woodlawn finish third among a field that included schools from the largest classifications.Those winning individual state championships were: • Woodlawn freshman Justus Lowe won the 105-pound class with a total lift of 525 lbs.Aden Moore, a senior, was first in the 148-poud class with a total lift of 925 lbs.Jude Rauls, a senior, defended his individual state championship with a total of 1,035 lbs., this time coming in the 165pound class. Rauls was again named "Best Lifter" of the state meet for the 97-165 weight classifications.Other Top 5 finishers in their respective weight classifications included: Freshman Tucker Hoyt was second in the 114-pound class with a total lift of 485 lbs. while fellow freshman Trevor Edmondson was third with 420 lbs.Steven Holland, a freshman, was fourth in the 132-pound classification with 675 lbs.Michael Wright finished fifth in the 165-pound class with 855 lbs.
