May Is Extension Homemakers Month Across Arkansas

RISON - May 2, Cleveland County County Judge Jimmy Cummings signed a proclamation Thursday morning at Cleveland County Courthouse, proclaiming May to be Extension Homemakers Month. Originally, the organization was known as the Extension Homemakers Home Demonstration in 1912, to help individuals and our families improve their quality of living. Now, the EHC is a volunteer group associated with the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service, offering the latest research-based information in the areas of family and consumer sciences, agriculture and community development. Cleveland County has six active EHC Clubs and two active EHC Project Clubs: Y', Busy Bee's of Kingsland, Friendship, New Home, RYE, project clubs: County Cultivators and Why Knots, Stitchin' Sisters . These volunteers are the backbone of volunteer work within our counties. They judge at local fairs, volunteer their time with county events, and all involved with various projects like sewing teaching dolls, crocheting newborn caps & caps for cancer individuals, lap quilts for Jude's, patriots quilts for veterans along with Bingo at the Cottages, providing community feedings. All clubs welcome visitors and new members. Some meetings are held in the evenings. If you would like more information please call the local Extension office at (870) 325-6321 and you will be put into contact with someone who can provide you with information.
