RISON - Cleveland County Sheriff Deputy Michael Poss of Rison announced this week his intention to run for sheriff as a Republican in the 2026 election.Keden Shrum, also of Rison, have announced their intentions to run for the office next year. The two will face off in the Republican primary election on March 3, 2026. The filing period for the 2026 election period will be Nov. 3-12 this year.A 2006 Woodlawn High School graduate, Poss has served as a deputy since November 2022. He graduated from the Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy in 2023.In addition to serving as a deputy, Poss said he also assisted in some investigations carried out by the sheriff’s department.Poss joined the sheriff’s department after spending more than 12 year working for the Department of Defense at the Pine Bluff Arsenal. He held various jobs before that in addition to doing excavation work.“I always wanted to be in law enforcement,” Poss said about his decision to run. “I care about the people, and I care about the county.
