KINGSLAND - The U.S. Postal Service made it official Saturday when it unveiled a new plaque renaming the post office at Kingsland after its most famous native son, Johnny Cash.Cash was born Feb. 26, 1932, to Ray Cash and Carrie Rivers Cash in the Cross Roads community a little more than 3 miles north of Kingsland. About a dozen family members from both the Cash and Rivers sides of his family were at the event.About 80 people overall, including Yancy Kyle from Congressman Bruce Westerman's and David Ryder from Senator Tom Cotton's office, were at the ceremony to officially unveil the plaque naming the post office as the Kingsland Johnny Cash Post Office. Gilmore explained that Cash knew the procedure to name the post office and also knew that he once worked for Congressman Westerman, who could get the process started. After his meeting with Wayne Cash, Gilmore wrote a letter Westerman on Sept. 20, 2023, asking for the congressman's support in naming the post office after the legendary musician. Part of Saturday's ceremony included a video of Westerman presenting the legislation on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.Last year, both the House and Senate approved the bill, and former President Joe Biden signed Public Law 118-237 into law in January officially naming the facility as the Kingsland Johnny Cash Post Office.Wayne Cash was among the family members attending Saturday's event.Mark R...
