Wildcats To Scrimmage At Monticello Tuesday

RISON - Coach Chris Vereen will have his first opportunity to see his 2025 Rison Wildcats against someone other than themselves Tuesday, Aug. 18, when they travel to Monticello to scrimmage the Class 4A Billies.The junior high teams are set to scrimmage at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varsity teams at 7 p.m.Monticello’s varsity returns nine starters on offense and five star on defense off a team that finished 9-3 last year and advanced to the third round of the Class 4A playoffs.Junior running back Joseph Accelus will be a key part of Monticello’s spread offense after racking up 1,403 yards rushing on 206 carries to average better than 6.8 yards per carry. Those kind of numbers earned him an All-Conference selection as a sophomore last year.The Billies, ranked no. 12 by Arkansas Football magazine, will be breaking in a new quarterback this year as Coach Randy Harvey has been looking at senior Jackson Hines and junior Hudson Harvey for the position. Whoever gets the call will be taking snaps behind an offensive line that returns all five starters....
