CONWAY - Carson Young rushed for 148 yards with a touchdown and also caught a 20yard pass for another score to lead the Woodlawn Junior Bears to 28-18 win over the South Side-Bee Branch Junior Hornets at Hendrix College in Conway last Thursday.After forcing a South Side punt on the opening series of the game, Woodlawn used a methodical 11-play, 82-yard drive that consumed 6:10 off the clock on its first possession to take an 6-0 lead.Young, a 7th grader, accounted for 66 yards of that drive on eight carries, including a 7-yard pickup on 4th-and-5 that kept the drive alive. Junior Bear quarterback Greyson Jones capped the scoring march with a 14-yard touchdown pass to tight end Miles West. The two-point run was stopped leaving Woodlawn with a 6-0 lead with 7:11 left in the second quarter.The Junior Hornets were forced to punt again on their next possession, and the Junior Bears answered with another sustained drive to push their lead to 14-0.The big play of the drive came when Jones found Duke Scott for a 29-yard gain down to the South Side 23. Two plays later, Jones hit Young for a 20-yard score with 36 seconds left in the first half. Young connected with Brody Richardson on the twopointer after the Junior Bears were backed up 10 yards for penalty on the conversion attempt. Overall, the drive covered 64 yards in eight plays while taking 4:50 off the clock.Woodlawn extended its lead with another long drive to start the third quarter.Taking over a their own 31, the Junior Bears used a 30-yard catch-and-run from Jones to Richardson to give Woodlawn a first down at the Junior Hornet 13. Young scored on a one-yard run with 4:24 left in the third.
