RISON - The Cleveland County Care Fund is accepting donations to provide Christmas cheer and meet essential needs for local families as the holidays approach.Former DHS administrator Malinda McKnight is involved with the all-volunteer group, which helps people who "fall between the cracks" of government programs. The fund provides clothing, food, help with utilities, and Christmas gifts, sometimes fulfilling specific wants. McKnight recalled helping a student whose shoes were held together with tape, leading to an emotional expression of gratitude from the mother. The non-profit organization, which operates under the Pioneer Village at Rison’s 501(c)3 status, only assists individuals referred by churches, schools, or the DHS office to ensure aid reaches those most in need. Last year's donations were a record high, but McKnight hopes to see that grow.Contact Malinda McKnight at (870) 692-2332 to volunteer or sponsor a family.
