New Edinburg Woman Dies in Accident at Rison

RISON - A New Ediburg woman died early Saturday morning in a one-vehicle accident along Amis Street in Rison, Arkansas State Police reported.Destiny Amaya Watts, 19, of New Edinburg, was traveling east bound in a 2004 Toyota Camry along Amis Street in Rison when the vehicle left the roadway, struck an fire hydrant and the vehicle overturned, ejecting the driver.Trooper James Reed reported the accident took place at 2:35 a.m. Saturday morning, Nov. 29. The weather was clear and road conditions dry at the time of the accident. There were no passengers reported in the vehicle. The body was taken to Buie Funeral Home in Rison.The response to the accident was brought up during the Rison City Council meeting Tuesday night with Sheriff Jack Rodgers in attendance.Councilman Cleve Reed told the sheriff he had two constituents complain to him that it took about 45 minutes for law enforcement to respond to the accident. Rodgers said that time frame was inaccurate.According to the digital time stamp at the dispatcher’s office, the call about the accident came in at 2:38 a.m. and the first deputy arrived at the scene six minutes later at 2:44 a.m. He said two additional deputies who had just gotten off work returned to assist a few minutes later.Rodgers said once it was determine that it was a fatal accident, the Arkansas State Police was called in. He said the cause of the accident remains under investigation....
