Rison Under Boil Order After Water Main Break

The City of Rison is currently under a boil water after a 6-inch water main broke Sunday afternoon dropping water pressure below 20 psi. Joe Freyer, utilities manager for the City of Rison, said he received an alert via the automated alert system at 2:34 p.m. Sunday that the water level in the city’s water tanks was dropping.

About an hour later, he said water customers in the city began to report low water pressure or no water at all. Freyer said the causes was a 6-inch water main that had broken in half in a wooded area behind the sawmill on Niven Road. A city crew worked throughout the night to have the leak repaired by about 4:30 a.m. Monday.

Freyer said he was taking water samples to the Arkansas Health Department today to see if boil order can be lifted. State regulations require a boil order be issued when water pressure falls below 20 psi.
