RISON - Smackover’s full court press early in the third quarter proved to be the difference as the Buckaroos erased Rison’s four-point lead to take the lead and eventually pull away for a 67-48 win over the Wildcats at the Rison Gym Monday night.With the game tied 7-7 about midway through the first, Smackover pulled ahead by the end of the period and was leading by eight when the ‘Cats went on a run late in the second to tie it up, 19-19, by halftime.Rison went up by four early in the third quarter before the Buckaroos began their full court press and the Wildcats began to turn the ball over trying to break it. Smackover capitalized and quickly erased the four-point deficit to go up 40-33 by the start of the fourth quarter.The defensive pressure continued in the final period as Rison’s six-player roster began to wear down. The Buckaroos scored 27 points in the fourth quarter to post the 19-point win.Kyson Walker, after going scoreless in the opening period, finished strong to pace the ‘Cats with 25 points.Rison fell to 1-1 overall with the loss while Smackover improved to 2-3.Rison 64, Camden Harmony Grove 21FORDYCE - Kyson Walker scored 24 and Dion Gray added 22 as the Rison Wildcats blew out the Ouachita County Harmony Grove Hornets, 64-21, last Wednesday to give new Rison Coach Steve Gonzales his first win to open the Fordyce Tournament.Walker scored eight of his game-high 24 points in the first quarter as the ‘Cats went up 14-7 by the end of the opening period before extending it to 32-13 by halftime.The Hornets offensive woes carried over to the second half as Rison dominated the third quarter, 19-3, taking a commanding 41-16 lead into the fourth.Gray was red hot from beyond the arch, hitting six 3-pointers on the night, three of which came in the third quarter....
