Bears Bounce Crossett; Blowout Ouachita

MONTICELLO - After trailing at the end of the opening frame, the Woodlawn Bears adjusted to the Crossett Eagles’ quickness in the second quarter to move in front by halftime before pulling away in the second half for a 66-48 victory Saturday in the mini-state tournament at Drew Central High School in Monticello.Woodlawn Coach Logan Adair said his Bears seemed to be have issues with Crossett’s quickness at the start the game before finally settling in during the second. The Eagles were up 17-13 at the end of the first before the Bears outscored them 18-7 in the second to take a 31-24 lead at the half.Woodlawn continued to pull away in the third and then put up 22 points  in the fourth for the 18-point win.The Bears had a balanced scoring attack against Crossett with Jack Lephiew scoring a team-high 15 followed by Ethan Saeler with 12 and Josh Trantham with 10. Jake Allred had eight while Cash Hargis had seven.Adair said Woodlawn drained nine 3’s in the game. Allred, Hargin and Trantham each had two apiece while Saeler, Lephiew and Landon Pratt made treys as well. Adair said it was Lephiew’s first-ever 3-pointer on the varsity level.The Bears’ leading scorer for the season, Jude Roberts, finished with four points. Adair said he was not feeling well and only played about 11 minutes.Woodlawn improved to 6-2 overall with the non-conference win and is 1-0 in 8-2A conference play.Woodlawn 100, Gurdon 27WOODLAWN - Woodlawn had 11 players score as the Bears took a massive lead early before cruising to a dominating 100-27 win over the Gurdon Go Devils last Tuesday night to open 8-2A conference play at Woodlawn.Jude Roberts scored 25 of his game-high 27 points in the first quarter as the Bears bolted out to a 40-12 by the end of the opennig period.
