10  YEARS  AGOFEBRUARY  17,  2016Early voting started Tuesday for the 2016 Preferential Primary and Non-Partisan Judicial General Elections. The elections will both be March 1. Arkansas has traditionally held its primary elections in May, but the state legislature approved moving this year's primaries to March 1 so the state could be part of the so-called "SEC Primary," made up mostly of seven states across the South, with hopes of giving the South greater influence in deciding the presidential nominees for each political party. There are no county-wide contested races. Seeking a position on the Kingsland City Council are Sharon G. Crosby, Tleatha Spencer and Helen J. Browning. Among the Democratic candidates for U.S. President are Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, while Republican candidates seeking the White House include Ben Carson, Mike Huckabee, Donald J. Trump, Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Lindsey Graham, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Gov. Chris Christie and Rick Santorum.Kickstart Cleveland County welcomed three new affiliated organizations during its first meeting of the new year last Thursday. Friends of the Pioneer Village, the Cleveland County Fair Board, and the newly-organized Cleveland County Community Theater group were all represented at the meeting.
