Bears Fall to Riverside; Beat Salem, Midland at Batesville

BATESVILLE - After dropping its first game in a rematch with last year’s state quarterfinalist Riverside, the Woodlawn Bears bounced back with wins over Salem and Midland to go 2-1 in the Batesville Tournament this past weekend.Riverside, which knocked Woodlawn out of the state playoffs last year with a 5-0 win, used an explosive second inning on Friday to post a 13-1 win over the Bears. Woodlawn, 6-2 overall, bounced back to beat Salem 16-7 and Midland 13-7 on Saturday.Here is a summary of each game:Riverside 13, Woodlawn 1Riverside scored five runs in the second and six more in the fourth as the Rebels made quick work of the Woodlawn Bears, 13-1, to open the Batesville Tournament last Friday.The Rebs got to Woodlawn starter Hollis Holderfield in the second inning as they plated five runs off a walk, two singles and two doubles. Riverside added two more in the third before ringing up six mores runs in the fourth off two walks, a hit batter,  an error and three hits. The game ended after the fifth inning.Woodlawn’s run came after loading the bases with no outs in the top of the fifth before the next two batters struck out. A bases-loaded walk, however, pushed a run across. The Bears were caught stealing home for the final out.Gavin Edmonds, Logan Clark and Tyner Burris accounted for the Bears’ three hits.Holderfield took the loss after giving up seven hits and one walk with two strikeouts over two innings. Clark finished out the final two frames allowing three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.Zain McClure got the complete game victory for Riverside.Woodlawn 16, Salem 7Parker Arnold went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs as the Woodlawn Bears overcame an early two-run deficit to knock off the Salem Greyhounds, 16-7, in the second game of the Batesville Tournament on Saturday.Salem started the game with a triple and single to put up two...
