Joe Ralph Thompson Drag Race Car on Display at Museum

MORRILTON - This Hemi-powered Plymouth drag car built by the late Joe Ralph Thompson of the Pansy community is currently on display at the Museum of Automobiles on Petit Jean Mountain near Morrilton. Thompson’s cars were recognized nationally after winning some national drag racing events sanctioned the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). His daughter, Robbie McKinney who now lives in the Memphis area, said the car was originally altered at her father’s shop in Pansy where it was literally was cut in two and welded together to shorten the wheelbase. Joe Ralph Thompson was inducted into the Arkansas Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2016. She thanked Rick Eagan for restoring the car to its original state and allowing it to be on display at the Museum of Automobiles.
