Lady Bears Run-Rule Lady ‘Dogs in 8-2A Battle for First

WOODLAWN - Laci Rauls pitched a no-hitter and smashed two doubles as the Woodlawn Lady Bears dominated the Hampton Lady Bulldogs, 11-0, in an 8-2A conference showdown Tuesday afternoon at Lady Bear Field. The victory leaves Woodlawn atop the league without a loss at 5-0 while Hampton fell to second with a 6-1 record. The Lady ‘Dogs remain a game ahead of Magnet Cove, which is 5-1.The game ended by the 10-run rule after Hampton batted in the top of the fifth inning.The Lady Bears grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first when Jaci Hoyt reached on an error to start the inning and then scored on Kendall Tooke’s follow-up double. Molly Shelby drove Tooke in with another two-base hit to make it 2-0.Woodlawn then scored five more runs in the second, all coming with two out. Hoyt’s two-out single brought in one run before she scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to 4-0. Rauls followed with a double to bring one more home and then back-to-back doubles by Addison Holland and Karsyn Chastain drove in three more to make it 8-0.Rauls delivered another RBI double in the third to extend the Lady Bear’ cushion to 9-0 before Chastain scored on an error and Anniston Wright stole home to make it 11-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Six of the Lady Bears’ nine hits were doubles: Rauls had two while Holland, Chastain, Tooke and Shelby had one apiece. Hoyt and Rauls each finished with two hits.Rauls was nearly perfect inside the circle. After walking the lead-off batter to start the game, Rauls retired the next 11 batters, eight of which came by strikeout. Her streak ended with a two-out walk  in the fourth and she also hit a batter with two out in the fourth for Hampton’s third base runner of the game.Overall, Rauls rang up 10 strikeouts with no hits.The Lady Bears improved to 17-4 overall and 5-0 in conference while Hampton fell to 9-5-1 overall and 6-1 in league play.Wo...
