RISON - The Rison Wildcats will have an open date at the end of the season after the Barton Bears announced last week through social media they were moving from 11-man to eight-man football this season due to low roster numbers.
Rison was scheduled to host Barton for an 8-3A conference game in the final regular season game of the year on Nov. 6.
Rison Coach Chris Vereen said it was a blow to the football program since the Barton game was one of five home games the ‘Cats this year. He said that home gate is figured into the overall budget.
Vereen said he may look into possibly scheduling a junior varsity game with a higher classification school to help make up the lost home game.
