Jr. Bears Run Over Jr. Ramblers, 54-6

WOODLAWN - Carson Young rushed for 162 yards on eight carries and scored five touchdowns as the Woodlawn Junior Bears ran over the Rose Bud Junior Ramblers 54-6 Friday afternoon at the Carl Jones Sports Complex.

Woodlawn had four offensive and two defensive touchdowns in picking up its second consecutive win to move to 2-1 on the year.
The Junior Bears’ Blake Heflin recovered an onside kick at the Rose Bud 48 to start the game and seven plays later Young scored on an one-yard run to make it 8-0 after Bentley Hoyt’s conversion run.

Young had a 33-yard run to start Woodlawn’s second drive, setting up his seven-yard score four plays later. Hoyt again added the two pointer to make it 16-0.

The Junior Bears’ next two scores came on defense. After Blake Heflin knocked the ball loose on a quarterback sack, Grayson Jones picked it up and went 49 yards for the TD. Young’s conversion made it 24-0.

On the Junior Ramblers’ ensuing series, Young picked up another fumble and returned it 60 yards for a score. This time the Junior Bears fumbled the two-point attempt to leave it 30-0.

Young closed out the first half with a 42-yard touchdown run and Brody Richardson’s two-pointer made it 38-0 at halftime, invoking a running clock for the final two quarters.

Young, now playing quarterback, picked up a fumbled snap and went 42 yards for his fifth TD. Remi Horner added the conversion to extend the lead to 46-0.

Horner closed out the scoring for Woodlawn with a 36-yard touchdown run. He also ran in the conversion to make it 54-0.

Rose Bud avoided the shutout with a 40-yard TD run late.

Defensively, Juan Dominquez, Blake Heflin, Jestin Chastain and Zach Mull had tackles for losses. Konner Ziegler had a fumble recovery for the Junior Bears.
