Veterans Group To Honor Danny Jacks With Vietnam Solider Statue at Park

RISON - The Cleveland County Veterans Association will host its annual Veterans Ap‐preciation Dinner this fall as a special fundraiser to honor the late Danny Jacks, a highly-deco‐rated Army Ranger who fought in Vietnam. Organizers John Blanchard and Roger McClellan an‐nounced that the dinner will be held Saturday, Oct. 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds. Dorey's will cater the dinner with a fish and chicken buffet for $15 per person. All profits sup‐port the Veterans Association efforts and the goal to place a bronze Vietnam Veteran statue in Veterans Park at Rison in honor of Danny Jacks. Staff Sergeant Jacks of the Rowell area earned the Silver Star Medal for Gallantry, the Bronze Star Medal for Valor and the Purple Heart Medal during combat in Vietnam. He was inducted into the Armh Ranger Hall of Fame for exemplary leadership and courage during long range re‐connaissance patrols in 1969 and 1970 while assigned to Company G (Ranger), 75th In‐fantry Regiment, Americas (23rd Infantry) Division. “He is the most highly-deco‐rated solider in the state, and he’s from Cleveland County,” Blanchard said of the Associa‐tion’s decision to place the memorial in honor of Jacks. All veterans and one guest eat free at the October dinner. Blanchard said that after tak‐ing two years off and doing drive-thru during the COVID pandemic, the dinner will be held inside the exhibit hall and will include a special program. Guest speakers will be an‐nounced in the fall. Donations in advance of the dinner are also being accepted for the statue fundraiser and can be mailed to Cleveland County Veterans Association, c/o John Blanchard, P.O. Box 855, Rison, AR 71665. In the check memo, it should be noted “Danny Jacks Fund.” For more information, call (870) 692-1237. ...
