WOODLAWN - Teachers and staff working for the Woodlawn School District got an early Christmas present when the Woodlawn School Board approved Superintendent Kevin Hancock's recommendation to give each employee a one-time, non-recurring payment of $1,200 each.
The school board approved the recommendation at the conclusion of its regular monthly meeting last Tuesday night, Nov. 15.
Hancock said the one-time payments will be funded through two sources: $750 will come from the district's operating fund while the other $450 will come from the district's federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) fund.
Federal ESSER funding was provided to public school districts across the country to help them cope with the challenges related to the COVID pandemic. Hancock said the ESSER funding is being used for "retention" of staff, which is one of the ways the money can be used.
Hancock said staff should have the one-time payments before December.
