Lady Bears Fall at Chapel

PARKERS CHAPEL - Parkers Chapel scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Lady Trojans handed the Woodlawn Lady Bears their first loss of the season, 1-0, in the 8-2A conference opener Tuesday afternoon at Parkers Chapel. The game boiled down to a pitching duel between Woodlawn's Lillie McWhorter and Parkers Chapel's Kallie Martin as both managed to get out of some jams along the way. McWhorter scattered four hits while walking two and striking out 11 over seven innings. Martin gave up three hits and four walks with two strikeouts. The Lady Trojans' winning run was set up when Krista Rivers led off the bottom of the sixth with a single. She advanced to second on a passed ball and then moved to third on a play at first after a dropped third strike. With a 1-1 count on the next batter, a passed ball allowed Rivers to score what turned out to be the only run of the game. Kaitlyn Webb drew a walk to lead off the top of the seventh, but a line out followed by two strikeouts left her stranded there. The Lady Bears best chance to score came in the third when Erin West and Lily White drew back-to-back walks to start the frame, but three consecutive outs turned back the threat. Webb, Jaci Hoyt and Maci Harrison accounted for Woodlawn's three hits. The Lady Bears fell to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play after the loss. ...
