Lady 'Cats Use 5-Run Fourth To Beat Junction

JUNCTION CITY - A five-run fourth inning proved to be the difference last Friday as the Rison Lady Wildcats picked up their first 8-2A conference victory of the season with a 7-5 road win over the Junction City Lady Dragons. Rison took an 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Layne Potter walked, Jade Keaton singled and Josey Edwards walked to load the bases. Rhagen Price then popped out to center, allowing Potter to tag up for a run. Junction City moved on top with three runs in the bttom of the third off two singles, a triple and an error. In the ensuing top half of the fourth, Price led off with a single and then scored on a follow-up double by Breanna Taylor. Carlese Johnson then singled before Amelia Stewart's sacrifice bunt advanced the runners to second and third. Carlie Crain then reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. A fielder's choice by Elissa Summar brought Taylor home to tie the game, 3-3. Potter then delivered an RBI single and Keaton followed with another hit that drove in two more runs to give the Lady 'Cats a 6-3 lead. The Lady Dragons scored on a double and single in the bottom of the fourth to cut Rison's lead to 6-4. Summar answered for the Lady Wildcats when she drove in a run in the sixth inning to put Rison back up by three, 7-4. Junction City made a push in the bottom of the seventh to possibly tie the game when a oneout solo homerun made it 7-5, and a single and a walk put two runners on. However, a fly out sealed the win for Rison. Potter, Keaton and Price all finished with two hits apiece for the Lady 'Cats while Taylor and Johnson had hits as well. Edwards started inside the circle for Rison, allowing five hits and no walks over three innings while striking out two. Keaton pitched the final four frames, scattering four hits, giving up one walk and striking out four ...
