GURDON - Gurdon capitalized on some big hits and several Rison errors early as the Lady Warriors outlasted the Lady Wildcats, 18-11, Tuesday afternoon in an 8-2A conference game at Gurdon.
Two two teams combined for 26 hits overall with Rison finishing with 14 and Gurdon 12. However, it was the 10 errors committed by the Lady 'Cats, especially early on, that turned the game.
Doubles by Layne Potter and Rhagen Price gave Rison an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. But Ouachita came back in the bottom of the inning to use a error, a hit batter, a walk and two doubles to go up 4-2.
The Lady Warriors then took advantage of five errors and two singles in the second inning to plate six runs and extend their lead to 10-2.
The Lady Wildcats did manage to respond with three runs in the top of the third off asingle by Potter and back-to-back doubles by Price and Josey Edwards to make it 10-5, but Gurdon answered with three runs of its own in the bottom of the third push it back to a eigt-run lead, 13-5.
After the Lady Warriors added four runs in the fourth to extgend it to a 17-5 led, Rison used a double by Edwards and singles by Carlese Johnson and Jade Keaton to plate four runs and make it 17-9, avoiding the 10-run rule.
After Gurdon tacked on another run in the sixth, the Lady 'Cats used a single by Edwards, a double by Amelia Stewart and a two-run triple by Victoria James to make the final 18-11.
Rison had seven hits that went for extra bases in the game. In addition to James' late triple, Price and Edwards finished with two doubles apiece while Stewart and Potter also had two-baggers.
Edwards started inside circle for the Lady Wildcats, going three innings before giving way to Keaton for the final three frames. Together, they allowed 12 hits with four walks and nine strikeouts.
