RISON - An electrical problem is being attributed as the cause of a fire that destroyed the home of Terry and Melissa Haywood in Rison Sunday afternoon, Rison Fire Chief Alan Parnell reported.
At 3:59 p.m. Sunday, April 16, Parnell said the Rison Fire Department responded to a call at 90 Moore Drive in Rison about smoke coming from a breaker box.
Upon arrival, Parnell said they found heavy smoke showing from the entire structure and fire venting from the roof. "We found heavy fire in the attic that started on the carport side of the house where the breaker box is located," he said.
Firefighters began trying to extinguish the fire from the eaves of the house and then attempted an interior attack but Parnell said conditions of the roof forced everyone out of the house. He said the roof of the house had collapsed with heavy smoke and water damage throughout the structure. Parnell said they determined the house to be a total loss.
While the residents were at home at the time of the fire, no one was injured.
Parnell reported that 16 firefighters, two pumper trucks and a rescue unit were called to the scene. He said there was also automatic aide from the Hwy. 35 South Fire Department which brought additional firefighters, another pumper truck and a tanker truck.
