RISON - Rison Street Department crew members G.L. Langford (operating backhoe), Wayne Wells and Ricardo Fletcher repair what turned out to be three water leaks along a ¾-inch service line on Magnolia Street near the Oak Street intersection on Monday.
Rison Utilities Manager Joe Freyer said traffic had to be detoured around the work area Monday but was re-opened once the first leaks were repaired. However, Freyer said Tuesday that additional leaks had been found within that same area, and repairs will be made once some of the crew complete some water department training they were attending this week. Freyer said having multiple breaks within the same area is not uncommon considering the age of the water lines. He said those water lines beneath roads with the heaviest truck traffic are most likely to see ongoing problems with leaks.
The City of Rison has been awarded a grant to help replace some of the water lines in the city.
