RISON - Several old headstones at the historic Cherry/Temperance Chapel Cemetery that is located along Mt. Elba Road were recently damaged by what appeared to be livestock as many cattle and horse hoof prints were apparent next to the damaged headstones.
The damaged headstones, with several dating back to the 1860s, were repaired this past week by Edgar Colvin and a supporting group of volunteers that included: Rex Norris, Roy Phillips, Lynn Wooley, Jim Phillips and John Phillips.
The cemetery includes many of the pioneer families of the area that arrived here in the mid-1800s and long before Cleveland County was organized in 1873.
