Kingsland Seeking Water, Wastewater Operators
KINGSLAND - The City of Kingsland is looking for a new water operator after Stan Miller, the man who had accepted both the water and wastewater operator positions, decided not take it either job after all, Mayor Sharon Crosby told the Kingsland City Council last Thursday night.
In March, the Kingsland City Council approved hiring Miller to serve as both the water and wastewater operator for the city beginning June 1. Miller was a retired water and wastewater consultant who worked for various clients throughout the country. He said he had recently retired to the area and expressed an interest in handling both positions for the city.
However, Crosby told the council that Miller had let his Arkansas water and wastewater operator licenses expire since he was working out of state. The Kingsland job offer was contingent on Miller getting those license.
After recently visiting with Miller, Crosby said he told her he decided not to take the job after all. Crosby told the city council during last Thursday’s regu‐lar monthly meeting that Caleb Parker will continue to serve as the city’s interim water operator while Joe Freyer will continue to serve as the city’s interim waste‐water operator until new opera‐tors can be hired, trained and/or secure their own license.
Parker is currently the water operator for the West Saline Water Users Association while Freyer is licensed water/ wastewater operator who currently serves as the utilities man‐ager for the City of Rison.
Ronnie Taylor, who currently works part-time in the city’s street department, has expressed an interest in getting his waste‐water license, and Crosby said the plan is to transfer him to that position once he completes the training and gets his license. Taylor said the training program will begin in July.
In the interim, Crosby said Freyer will continue to serve as the city’s licensed wastewater operator.
