Locals Compete in Triathlon

CLARKSVILLE - Three Cleveland County residents participated in the Thrd Annual Broken Sword Sprint Triathlon held this past Saturday, Aug. 12, in Clarksville.   Julia Meyer of Kingsland, Les Walz of the Macedonia community and Lauren Leopard of Rison, all competed in their very first Sprint Triathlon race. This race consisted of a 500-meter swim, a 15-mile bike ride up and down the hills of Johnson County, and a 5K run.   The trio began training only six weeks ago with goals to participate and finish, so it came as a fantastic surprise when Meyer finished third in her age group with a time of 1:56:08. To round out the finish times were Leopard finishing the fastest at a phenomenal time of 1:42:57, and Walz finished in 2:04:50.   This trio took their limited training and made the gun start with 177 other competitors.  It might be of note these three were among just a handful representing South Arkansas.   Other competitors hailed predominantly from Little Rock and the northern half of the state with a few competitors traveling in from Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, West Virginia and California.  ...
