Hermitage Forfeits To Woodlawn; Bears Look to Improve Technique

WOODLAWN - The Hermitage Hermits have forfeited their South Conference game against the Woodlawn Bears that was scheduled for this Friday night, Oct. 6, at Hermitage, Woodlawn Coach Zach Meyer has announced. However, the Woodlawn Junior Bears are still scheduled to play the Hermitage Junior Hermits at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, at Hermitage. The Junior Bears are 2-1 and 0-1 in South Conference play while the Junior Hermits are undefeated. This is the third consecutive varsity game that the Hermits have forfeited due to low numbers. Meyer said he was informed that Hermitage had eight players available but preferred to wait until next week to play when two additional players were expected to return from injury. Hermitage had previously forfeited South Conference games to Spring Hill and Mountain Pine.  With the forfeit, the Bears move to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. The Hermits fall to 0-5 overall and 0-3 in league action. Woodlawn was looking to bounce back from last Friday night’s 48-20 loss at unbeaten Strong. The Bears fell behind 22-0 in the first quarter before cutting it to a 22-14 margin midway through the third quarter. Meyer said he much preferred playing this week rather than having another open date. “The best way to get over a loss is to get after it the next week,” he said. Still, the Bears came away with some injuries against Strong, and  Meyer said they can  use the off week to heal up and continue to hone up on fundamentals. He said a couple of players had concussions but should be available by next week. Also, quarterback/cornerback Aden Moore will be missing practice this week after hurting his shoulder again at Strong.
