RISON - At the Cleveland County Courthouse, 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 11, Veterans Day, the Cleveland County Extension Homemaker Council, and the Cleveland County Historical Society will unveil the hand stitched quilt made in 1944 by local Home Demonstration Clubs (now Extension Homemaker Clubs).
The Cleveland County Extension Homemakers and the Cleveland County Historical Society invite the public to join them as they proudly display this 9 ft by 9 ft quilt at the Cleveland County Courthouse.
The Cleveland County Extension Homemakers and the Cleveland County Historical Society will host a reception immediately following at the Pioneer Village, corner of Yaney and Mockingbird in Rison. Both organizations will honor the family that donated the quilt as well as the men and women of Cleveland County in service during WWII.
The Service Men's Quilt will be on permanent display at the Cleveland County Courthouse. Each of the 36 squares has handstitched names of the men and women of the county serving in WWII at the time the quilt was made. In 1944 there were already some of the service men who had died as a result of the war and are designated by a gold star, others wounded in action designated by a silver star.
