Fordyce Builds on Early Lead To Beat Lady Bears

WOODLAWN - Fordyce continued to build on its early lead throughout the game as the Ladybugs handed the Woodlawn Lady Bears their fifth straight loss, 56-39, in an 8-2A conference game last Friday night at Woodlawn. The loss dropped the Lady Bears to 9-13 overall and 2-6 in league play.  Fordyce led 11-10 at the end of the first quarter, and gradually pulled away from there, going up 27-21 at halftime, and 41-31 to start the fourth quarter. Despite the string of losses, Woodlawn Coach Synthia English remains optimistic about a late season surge if she can get more a consistent play among her starters at the same time. Lillie Faye McWhorter has one of best games of the season, English said, as she finished with a team-high 11 points. Kathryn Dixon and Kelsi Mack followed with nine apiece. Ouachita 55, Woodlawn 49 WOODLAWN - The Ouachita Lady Warriors were able to sink their free throws down the stretch as they got past the Woodlawn Lady Bears, 55-49, last Tuesday, Jan. 23, in 8-2A conference action at Woodlawn. After going into halftime with the game knotted at 15-15, both teams put up 18 in the third quarter to take a 33-33 into the final period. The game was still tied with about 3 minutes left before Ouachita managed to make some free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
