Rauls Breaks More State Records at AHSPA Meet

MONTICELLO - Woodlawn’s Jude Rauls set yet another state record this past weekend and was declared the “Outstanding Lifter” for the 97-165 pound classifications at the Arkansas High School Powerlifting Association (AHSPA) regional meet held Saturday, Feb. 17, at Monticello High School.Rauls was one of nine Woodlawn lifters competing in the meet. The Bears tied with Parkers Chapel in the team standings with 28 points apiece. Monticello, the host team, won the meet with 49 points.In January, Rauls set an AHSPA state record in the 148pound classification with a lift of 245 lbs. in the bench press.This past Saturday, Rauls competed in the 165-pound class and won with a total of 1,030 lbs. in the squat, bench press and dead lift. Rauls once again set a new state record in the 165 bench press with a lift of 275 lbs., beating the old record of 260 lbs. Woodlawn weight coach Trent Young said Rauls tied his personal best in the bench press and set a new personal best in the deadlift.Young said Rauls was also awarded the Outstanding Lifter Award for the 97-165 classifications based on his Schwartz score, which is a formula that takes into account a lifter’s body weight, total pounds lifted, number of lifts and other factors. Rauls was also the Outstanding Lifter for th 97-165 classifications at the AHSPA meet held ijn January at Monticello.While Rauls was the only Bear to win a classification, six others placed among the Top 5 in their respective classes with several setting new personal bests in the process.
