WOODLAWN - Peyton Wells and Tate Hall combined to throw a two-hitter Tuesday afternoon as the Woodlawn Bears opened 8-2A conference play with a 7-2 win over the Parkers Chapel Trojans.Parkers Chapel took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first when two walks and an error loaded the bases with two out before Hayden Primm singled to drive in both runs.The Bears loaded the bases off three walks in the bottom of the first before Garrett Weatherford scored on an error to make it 2-1.Woodlawn took the lead with three runs in the second. Aidan Johnson stroked a one-double before moving to third on a sacrifice bunt by Wells. Johnson then scored on a wild pitch before Weatherford drew a walk. Brayden Jones followed with a double that brought Weatherford home, and Jones eventually scored on an error to give the Bears a 4-2 lead.The Bears added their final three runs in the top of the sixth off a double by Wells, singles by Weatherford and Dillon Lunsford, and three walks.After PC found some success in the opening frame, Wells and Hall put a lid on the Trojans after that. Parkers Chapel did not see another baserunner until a batter reached on an error with two out in the fourth. Wells struck out the next batter.Wells got the win after scattering two hits over five innings, giving up five walks and striking out eight. Hall walked the first two batters he faced in the sixth before retiring the next six in order, five by strikeout. He did not give up a hit in the two innings he was on the mound.Wells and Jones both went 2for-2 at the plate as Woodlawn finished with eight hits. Jones had two doubles while Wells had one. Weatherford, Johnson, Dillon Lunsford and Grant Cowart accounted for the other hits.The Bears improved to 1-0 in conference play and 5-0 overall with the victory.
