JONESBORO - Brookland's Brianna Patterson hit a walk-off, three-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth to power the Class 4A Lady Bearcats to a 10-7 victory over the Woodlawn Lady Bears in second round action of the Blazer Blast in Jonesboro on Saturday.With the score tied 6-6 going into the fifth inning, both teams were given a runner at second to start the frame using the extrainning format.Anna Fitzgibbon started at second for Woodlawn before advancing to third on Lillie Faye McWhorter's fly ball. With two out, Fitzgibbon scored off what was Brookland's fifth error of the game, putting the Lady Bears up 7-6. Erin West followed with a single before a ground out ended Woodlawn's half of the fifth.An error of a lead-off ground ball allowed the Lady Bearcats to put runners at first and third with no outs. Woodlawn's Karsyn Chastain retired the next two batters with a strikeout and pop up, and then had two strikes on the next batter before a line drive dropped into left for a hit drawing Brookland even, 7-7. Patterson then homered on a two-strike pitch to end the game.The Lady Bears took a threerun lead in the top of second. Walks to Kendall Tooke and Erin West put two aboard whe Brookland had an error on Madi West's line drive to right that resulted in both runners scoring. Jaci Hoyt then followed with a single to drive in Madi West and make it 3-0.Brookland used a double, a single and an error to score two runs in the bottom of the second before Ashlyn McNeese smashed a grand slam homerun to give the Lady Bearcats a 6-3 lead.Woodlawn quickly responded, however, scoring three runs off errors in the top of the third to make it 6-6.Kathryn Dixon had two of the Lady Bears' four hits in the game.
