LITTLE ROCK - Gosnell senior pitcher Trent Middleton pitched a one-hitter as the Pirates capitalized on five Woodlawn errors to hand the Bears their first loss of the season, 6-1, in the first round of the Arkansas Baptist Tournament last Thursday in Little Rock.Woodlawn bounced back with wins over the Palestine-Wheatley Patriots, 7-6 (a rematch of last year's Class 2A state championship game) and 10-3 over the Carlisle Bison on Saturday. Here is a recap of each game: Gosnell 6, Woodlawn 1Hits were had to come by for both teams as Middleton's one hitter for Gosnell was matched by a combined three-hitter thrown by Woodlawn's Peyton Wells, Brayden Jones and Triston Bates .The Bears' lone run came in the top of the first when Wells reached on a dropped third strike to lead off the inning. His courtesy runner, Gage Boykin, moved to second on a pitching error, and then scored on a twoout single by Hall.The Pirates used two errors, two walks and a single to generate three runs in the bottom of the second before adding another of an error and walk to start the third. Gosnell's final run in the fourth was also scored off an error.Wells, the Bears' starter, was saddled with the loss after giving up one hit and four walks with six strikeouts over three innings. Jones came in in the fourth and gave up one hit and one walk with two strikeouts in his single inning on the mound. Bates allowed one hit to go with four strikeouts and no walks over the final two innings.Middleton went the distance for the Pirates, registering 14 strikeouts with four walks and one hit.
