Bears Hammer Go Devils, 15-4, for Ninth Straight Victory

GURDON - Seven of Woodlawn’s 10 hits went for extra bases as the Bears put away the Gurdon Go Devils, 15-4, in six innings Monday afternoon in an 8-2A conference game at Woodlawn.After Peyton Wells scored on a passed ball and Tate Hall delivered the first of his three doubles to drive in another run, Woodlawn jumped out a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first.Gurdon took advantage of two walks and two errors in the bottom of the first to plate three runs to go up 3-2.The Bears did not answer until the top of the third when an error and walk to lead off the inning set up Hall to deliver a two-run double. Hall then crossed home before Dillon Lunsford drew a walk. Parker Arnold then singled and Aidan Johnson followed with a two-run double to put Woodlawn up 7-3. An error on Grant Cowart’s ground ball scored another run to make it an 8-3 lead.The Go Devils drew four consecutive walks with one out in the bottom of the third to plate what would be their final run of the game.Brayden Jones led off the top of the fourth with a double, setting up Lunsford to bring him home with a sacrifice fly for a 94 Woodlawn lead.Wells had a sacrifice fly in the fifth to make it 10-4.The Bears then scored five runs in the top of the sixth to invoke the 10-run rule.Jones hit a homerun after Garrett Weatherford drew a lead-off walk. Hall then had his third double, and after a hit batter, Arnold had a two-bagger to drive in a run. Mason Edmonds, Arnold’s courtesy runner, eventually scored on a dropped third strike to make it 15-4. The game ended after the Devils batted in the bottomof the sixth.Hall went 3-for-4 with three doubles and one RBI. Jones and Arnold both had two hits apiece with Jones driving in two runs and Arnold one.
