The Man Behind the Camera: In Loving Memory of Seymore Weathers
Seymore Weathers, fondly known as "The Man Behind the Camera," was born on November 13, 1967, to Peronie Sr. and Loreather Weathers. He was the seventh of nine children and grew up surrounded by the love and support of a large family.
Seymore leaves behind his eight loving siblings: Jimmy Weathers, Peronie Weathers, Genett Mitchell, Calvin Weathers, Chris Weathers, Ralph Weathers, Theo Weathers, and Reather Weathers, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
At just 16 years of age, Seymore began what would become a lifelong passion and career at the Fordyce News Advocate. Armed with a camera and a love for storytelling, he dedicated himself to capturing the moments that brought the community together. Through his lens, he preserved memories, celebrated achievements, and documented the history of the people and events that made Fordyce special.
Seymore was more than a photographer. He was a faithful supporter of his community and a proud Fordyce Redbugs fan. No matter the event, whether it was a football game, school activity, community gathering, or local celebration, Seymore could always be found behind his camera, ensuring every moment was captured and remembered. The community knew they could count on him, and for decades, they did.
His generosity was evident in the thousands of photographs he shared freely on Facebook, allowing families, friends, and neighbors to relive their most treasured moments. Through his work, Seymore gave a gift that can never be replaced: memories preserved for generations to come.
Above all else, Seymore's greatest loves were his family, his work, and his community. He served each with unwavering dedication, kindness, and pride. His gentle spirit, caring heart, and commitment to others left an impact far beyond the photographs he captured. While he may have been the man behind the camera, he was also one of the people who helped a community see itself at its very best.
Seymore was deeply loved by his family, respected by his colleagues, and appreciated by the countless lives he touched. Though he is no longer behind the camera, the moments he captured and the memories he preserved will continue to tell his story for years to come.
His life was a picture of service, dedication, and love. His legacy will remain forever in our hearts.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Seymore Weathers will be held on August 22, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the Fordyce Redbugs Football Field.
To honor Seymore's love for the Redbugs and the community he so faithfully served, guests are encouraged to dress casually and wear their Redbug colors.
