10 YEARS AGOAPRIL 27, 2016A Pine Bluff man, fleeing from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Dept. on possible theft charges, was apprehended last Wednesday afternoon following a manhunt in a wooded area off Hwy. 63 between Rowell and Pansy. The suspect faces five counts of residential burglary and six counts of theft of property in the eastern part of Cleveland County. Thursday evening, investigators responded to the report of a shooting that occurred on Hwy. 63 south of Rye. The victim in the shooting was a 43-year-old black male from Warren, who had pulled over after having vehicle problems. An investigation is continuing into the shooting.Rison Mayor Vernon Dollar has scheduled a public meeting to discuss the proposed installation of new digital water meters for customers on the City of Rison water system and the possible $350,000 loan that will be used to buy them. The latest water usage audit for Rison found that about 26 million gallons of water had gone through the system without being billed to any customers. As many as 55 meters of the approximately 560 meters in the system are no longer working it was reported, and the non-working meters are currently being billed the minimum charge each month.The first class of inductees for the inaugural Woodlawn High School Baseball Hall of Fame were recognized Friday evening.The Rison Lady Wildcats won their third straight 7A-East Conference track title.20 YEARS AGOMAY 2, 2006Paper ballots are to be used for early voting in Cleveland County, as Clerk Sharon Gray told the Quorum Court that software problems will delay use of new voting machines.
