10 YEARS AGOJUNE 24, 2015The Bank of Rison has officially changed its name to Gateway Bank, president and CEO Troy Duke said this week. Duke said the bank will move to its new location at 112 Main Street in mid-July. The new bank building (site of the Phoenix Hotel building that was razed) is currently in the last phases of construction.Union Pacific Railroad recently completed construction of two new automated crossing gates at the Maple/Walnut Street crossing in south Rison. UP officials had asked the city to close the crossing, but the town council refused after getting feedback from residents who live along that portion of Walnut Street. The rail officials came back earlier this year to ask the city if it would consider closing the Maple/Walnut Street crossing if it built a new crossing at Mockingbird Lane (a short distance north) instead. The council again rejected the request and Union Pacific installed the new signals at no cost to the city. The crossing is located on a steep incline and has been the site of fatality accidents over the years when automobiles were struck by trains.The Cleveland County Sheriff's Dept. arrested two suspects, identified as 29-year-old Fredrick Tate, Jr., and 22-year-old Michael Payne, Jr., both of Pine Bluff, Monday afternoon after a residential burglary on Highway 212 north of Rison resulted in a high speed chase that ended in Jefferson County. Local law enforcement officials pursued the suspect vehicle north on Highway 79 at speeds over 100 mph. The suspects were apprehended after their car went into a ditch.
