10  YEARS  AGOMAY  18,  2016The Arkansas Foodbank has approved an agreement to help support the formation of a community food pantry in Rison that could launch this summer. The new Rison Community Food Pantry will be located in the Cleveland County Economic Opportunity Commission (EOC) office located at Second and Main in Rison.The Woodlawn Bears, 28-2, will face Junction City for the fourth time this season in the Class 2A State Baseball championship at Baum Stadium on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville Saturday morning. The Bears defeated the Dragons, 11-5, in the finals of the South Region Tournament, and then opened the state tournament with wins over Hector, Ouachita and McCrory to reach Saturday's finals.Hector scored four runs in the fourth inning to defeat the Rison Lady Wildcats, 4-0, in the first round of the Class 2A State Softball Tournament. Rison finished the season with a record of 21-8.20  YEARS  AGOMAY  24,  2006Gary Spears of New Edinburg and Bobby Hyatt of the "Y" community were the top two finishers in the three-candidate Democratic primary election for Cleveland County Judge on Tuesday, putting them in a run-off June 13. With about 43 percent of the registered voters turning out for the election, Spears collected 877 votes and Hyatt, 860. The incumbent judge, Vernon Dollar, ran third in the race. Other leaders in county races were Marcell Jacks for collector and Becky Tollison for treasurer. Tim McClellan led James Crosby in the race for mayor of Kingsland.
